Mike & Debbie Conway
TSgt Mike Duncan retired after 20+ years in the US Air Force as Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Sgt Debbie Duncan 5+ years in the US Army as a Vehicle Operator, both combat disabled veterans. Both suffered from PTSD and severe depression, as well as several other physical ailments, from their service.
After years of treatment as the VA helped but not enough, they turned to other forms of help. After years they found equine therapy. Horses are very calming and require a lot of care. The horses’ care and gentle presence distracts us from thoughts and memories that haunt us. They help us relate and work with other people that we would normally avoid. Our increasing knowledge of horses puts us on common ground with other horse people. Going to shows and events helps us engage with daily life again.
